He coasted, then slowed for the next step
curve on McCarthy Road.
“Nice red truck back there,” I said.
“For sale.
Parked diagonally across a lawn.”
He turned his head my way
about two minute-marks on the dial of a clock.
“Ram,” he said.
“What?”
“Dodge Ram,” he said. “A Chrysler.
That wagon your parents had—
engine light was always on?
Town & Country Chrysler.”
There are lists we could make, how we could use a truck.
But I knew what he meant.
No space for it.
Where would we keep all the straw?
